perfect saturday

Today has been nearly a perfect Saturday! I woke up when I wanted to. I had my morning coffee while checking up on favorite blogs, Facebook, email and other things on the inter-webs. I watched the morning news (or at least it was on in the background).

I then headed out for a what turned out to be a very good day. Picked up a friend, and it was nice because in the last few months we haven’t had much time to do fun girlie things together! We headed first to the mall for a little shopping. I ended up with a new bed set! I have been looking for one for months, but sometimes it’s the assistance of others that make it possible. So here’s what it looks like (obvisoly) not on my bed yet . . . need to wash it first, plus mine looks more purple than this silverish that it looks below.

After a successful mall trip we headed to lunch at my FAVORITE Mexican place in Columbia El Azteca. Ok I guess it’s really in Clarskville, but whatever! I love it because it’s authentic food with real ingredients. Nothing there tastes processed, it’s all made fresh. For the chicken they use shredded chicken that you get when you make a whole bird! It was extra special today because even though it was the weekend you could still order from their lunch specials.

After lunch we had some pool time! Oh how I miss pool time . . . the weather was priceless! It was sunny, warm with a nice breeze and the water was a perfect temperature. It cooled you off without making you feel like you would freeze by getting it. In fact it was quite comfortable to just sit for a while in the water. We spent a few hours there before I headed home.

So perfect Saturday continues . . . I am going to meet another friend at Starbucks and then who knows where the night will take me!

The 3 P’s in life

Persistence . . . Perseverance . . . Patience

Say it with with me now! Oh these three words are the mantra of my life these days. And folks that’s about all I have in me tonight, but stay tuned. I am thinking of some fun things to blog about soon.

  • Like me new business venture (check out Thirty-One Gifts, to see what it’s all about).
  • Or my working out at Curves (some days makes me feel great, others just annoyed)
  • Or my interesting predicaments in a few areas of my personal life (well that one could get ugly, so I guess we should hold off on this one).
  • Or my need for the BEACH and my lack of getting there any time soon!
  • Or my lack and now need to try a few new restaurants in the Baltimore/Columbia area (suggestions?)

What are you being persistent about? Having to persevere through? Have patience with?

Warmer weather…and seafood!

So it seems all anyone can talk about these days is the weather! And I agree it’s hot…but I definitely prefer this to the a snow storm!!! I don’t want to talk just about the weather, because let’s be honest even I (lover of the warmth) have not spent a whole lot of time outside the last few days!

So what have a I been doing? I had a massage on friday evening, which was AWESOME! But of course now I want another one stat . . . why do they have to be so expensive?

Saturday I had a great day with an old friend. It’s amazing to me how after not seeing someone for months at a time you can just easily fall back into chatting. We went down to the bay and I got to smell the ocean! Then we had dinner at this seafood restaurant. It was a little restaurant that probably had the less then 30 tables, but the food was so delicious!

Jerry’s is clearly a family owned restaurant, as the owner stopped by our table just to check on our experience. And he was such a sweet man! They also bring out tasty treats for you try as you are sitting there, we got the fresh baked (still hot) rolls, and haddock. I chose the combo dish for my meal which included a crab cake (not just any crab cake), haddock and 2 sides (I had fresh MD sliced tomatoes and french fries with old bay). The crab cake was the BEST EVER and I am serious! As you know I am the restaurant guru to try new places. A few years ago friends and I went on a search for the best crab cake in Baltimore, well this beat it by far!! The crab cake didn’t have ANY FILLER!!! Yes you read that right and the crab meat was super chunky and sweet. The haddock was lightly fried but the beer batter just added to the already tasty haddock. The tomatoes were as expected, OUT OF THE WORLD!! I love fresh from the farm tomatoes . . . and wish I had a space for a garden to make my own yummy tomatoes. I got lucky though and was sent home with a bunch from my friend’s garden. Overall it was a great experience . . . and now I have a reason to head back down to Southern Maryland just for food!

So life of the rockstar has been on hiatus…but even rockstars need a vacation!

Awesome weekend of sun and food!

My weekend started early on Friday at noon (we have half day Fridays at my organization, one of the reasons I love it) with a trip to the Amish market in Laurel. I has delish pretzel log…with the amazing steak and cheese (first time for this one), but the perfect little lunch. It was sweet and salty and cheesy all at the same time. What more could you ask for? I made my way over to the meat counter to stock up! I was completely out of most things and my freezer was looking a little bare. So I bought ground sirloin, bacon, Italian sausage, lunch meat turkey, and the most AMAZING veal ever! Then a quick stop at chicken counter for some boneless skinless chicken and chicken thighs.

I then headed home to decide what to make for dinner with all this amazingly fresh food. The veal was calling my name! I started with making some homemade tomato sauce (the only thing not homemade about it was the tomatoes since those were from a can). I let that simmer for a few hours and then made veal cutlet parmesan (as you can see below)!

Saturday I started the day with a workout at Curves, then I headed to a “me” day! I did the thing I needed so much, put my feet in the sand! I wish I could have made the drive down to the beach, but I just didn’t have a 3 hour drive (and possibly more with traffic) in me…so local it was. I was surprised at how perfect the experience was for me. I headed up to Oregon Ridge Park to the “beach“. Ok so it wasn’t a beach, but it was good enough in a pinch…it had sand, it had water (see below), but it didn’t have the smell of the ocean!

I drove up and kept thinking…where is this beach? But you walk down the hill, come out of the little building and poof there it is! It used to be an old quarry, and now it reminds me of a lake from my childhood. I grew up being lucky enough to have grandparents that owned a summer home in PA at Hemlock Farms, and we spent many weekends there! It was the perfect peaceful place as a child. You had to occupy your time with books or games because there was no tv…or you made your way into the woods thinking it was ok to look for the bear den (which by the way was dumb) or finding a deer to feed, but I digress. Being at Oregon Ridge reminded me of my childhood, and I look forward to the day where I can share it with my kids (if I ever have any). I put out the sheet, unpacked my magazines and settled in. After my first “swim” I had a picnic lunch (turkey from the Amish market) and then relaxed some more. All in all I was there about 4 hours and it was a perfect escape from reality!

Saturday night I had dinner with a friend at the green turtle. I was sadly disappointed with my burger and only ate half, so as you remember from my burger tour I thought I would like it!

Sunday has been another day of relaxation. I ran some errands, met a friend at starbucks for coffee (and sitting in the sun), and then home again for Women’s World Cup soccer!

The weather this weekend has been amazing as well! It’s been the perfect amount of heat during the day, with the pretty sunshine, and the cooling off at night that makes sitting outside perfect! I do wish I had a deck with a grill (and perhaps a cute boy manning the grill) with a drink in hand to enjoy the evening…I guess my own company will have to be enough for tonight until I can make the other piece happen.

How did you spend your weekend?
