Summer Lovin!

Summer Lovin’ had me a blast – Summer Lovin’, happened so fast…Ahh how I love summer! It has been an amazing few days and I feel so lucky to live the life I have. Let’s do a quick recap then feel free to share your summer fun.

Thursday night I headed to the Green Turtle to listen to one of my favorite local cover bands The Project. You should check them out, the next show is Thursday at Clyde’s in Columbia. They are an acoustic group of guys (Bob, Eric & Jason) that play all the hits you love to sing along too…just what I love about live music. They even ask for audience participation.

Friday…well I worked, which wasn’t bad, but after that the fun began. Visited with a dear friend and her adorable baby…I cannot get enough of this kid! She has to be one of the best babies I have ever met…and I really don’t like babies. Yes I know, weird, but they aren’t too interactive. Except for this one. She is super active, smiles, laughs is already trying to stand up (and she’s only 5 months old) and she is just generally AWESOME! Here’s a quick look at the cutie!

Saturday’s plans were some what delayed by bad weather…it rained almost all day. We had grand plans to head into DC early, enjoy the sites and walk around but that didn’t happen. But a friend and I braved the elements (maybe I melt in the rain, ok no I don’t but my hair frizzes) and headed down to DC to get our culture groove on. We went to the Capital Fringe Festivalto see Dizzy Miss Lizzie’s Roadside Revue presenting The Brontes. It was a great show, it made me laugh, it made me want to sing, they had me clapping along…totally recommend it (although there is only one show left). We topped the evening off with my favorite fro yo Yogi Castle!

And finally we had Sunday Funday! I did a living social deal for the day of fun. It was crabs, hamburgers, salads, beer, wine, and more for 4 hours….and live music by Millennium at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club just over the Bay Bridge. It was a fun day…despite the lack of sun.

Here was our view (yes that’s the Bay Bridge):

Sadly I don’t swim in the bay…and it had lots of jelly fish, but I did touch sand…so success and closer to my goal of 5 times this year!  I know I can get at least 4 so I need to figure out how to get my 5th time.

So what did your weekend hold?

Totally Awesome Thursday Love

Ok so did the title entice you to read? Good, I was hoping so! It’s Totally Awesome Thursday Love where I am going to list a few of the things I am currently loving about life. In my quest to get over my mixed emotions I am focusing on the positives in life.

  • Summer (yes I know it’s been hot, but really I love summer no matter the temp)
  • Babies (Lots of new babies being born, and I get to visit on Friday with a cutie
  • Coffee (that doesn’t need an explanation does it?)
  • Dresses (I love wearing dresses all summer…so easy! Plus I picked up a few new ones in the last few weeks and I LOVE LOVE LOVE them)
  • Working out (yes you read that correctly! I actually miss it when it doesn’t happen, who knew I would be one of those people, definitely not me)
  • Live music (going to see one of my favorite local bands tonight)
  • Reading (I can never seem to get enough of this! I read every day for fun and really don’t know how to exist without a book)
  • Kane Show (check them out! A great morning show that keeps me entertained on my drive to work)
  • Gwynnie Bee (what’s that you ask, why it’s Netflix for clothes. I have been able to try some new things that I never would have bought on my own)
  • Travel (I have booked a few trips this week for upcoming travel and I am super excited to go and see friends!)
  • #photoadayjuly (this little project has forced me to take a picture a day, even if it’s only with my iphone it’s been fun! Now I need to remember to break out my real camera since it hasn’t been used in nearly a month)

Here’s proof of some of my Thursday love…photos and coffee!

Feel free to add your own things to the list!

Spinach Pasta Bake

It was requested I post the recipe. Well by know you know I don’t really follow recipes too well…in fact I use them as a starting point and go from there. So here’s the jist of what I did. If you really want the actual recipe let me know and I can email it to you.
Spinach Pasta Bake

  • Penne Pasta (i think i used 1/4 of the box)
  • Raw Baby Spinach (about 3-4 cups)
  • Diced Tomatoes (I used a whole can, no salt added)
  • Garlic Powder (2 TBS)
  • Crushed Red Pepper (1 TBS)
  • Cheese (1/2 cup mozzarella, 1/4 cup cheddar)

Cook the pasta, leave al dente because it will cook more in the oven. Just before pasta is done add baby spinach to pot to wilt. Drain pasta and spinach. In large pot (I used the same one as I used for cooking pasta) mix well the pasta, spinach, diced tomatoes, garlic, red pepper, mozzarella. Spray a shallow dish and transfer pasta mixture to dish. Cook for 15 minutes, add cheddar cheese to top and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes (until cheese melts). Allow dish to cool slightly before serving or serve the next day.

I had some last night and it was quite yummy!

C is for Cookie

In this case Cookie Monster…did you see the “Call me Maybe” spoof by Sesame Street? Goodness it’s very funny! Take a look:

Other’s C stand for Crabs…yummy crabs! I had them on Saturday with a friend. It seems like the thing to do this weekend since a bunch of my twitter and FB friends had them too. I did take a quick break to snap a picture of a crab.

I had a bunch of other C’s in mind but of course since i sat down to write I can not remember them. I know one of them may be clothing and my love of some new clothes I bought recently.

C is for Charlie, my kitty cat. I believe he has made a blog appearance before, but if not here’s another pic.

One of my last C’s is for cooking! I made some yummy dishes for today, veal cutlet parm and spinach pasta bake. I of course didn’t eat either of them today because I had a late lunch, but had to at least taste them…quite yummy!

What would C stand for in your world?

Days of Mixed Emotions

Happy Friday the 13th! Are you freaking out? Not me…I love the 13th no matter what day of the week it lands on! I actually am weird in that I consider 13 my lucky number. I was born on the 13th, I played all my years of sports as #13 and almost every location I have lived in as an adult has the number 1 or 3, or even better 13 in it. Yes it’s true…I am not kidding, 301, 103, 213, and the list goes on.

But today’s real topic is all about mixed emotions, it’s been a roller coaster of a week in the emotional state of me. I can go from happy to sad to crying to overcome with joy all in a few short hours…if I didn’t know better I would think I have some mood disorder, but nope I don’t it’s just been a rough week. For the most part I am pretty happy person or at least I try to be…yet every once in while I have a stretch of a few days where things are just completing up and down. Right now I am excited for all the new things life has to offer, but sad because of the things I know are slowly coming to an end. Yes I am being very cryptic on purpose!

Let’s focus on some things that make me very happy…like my continued dedication to working out, even when I don’t want to. I have been pretty focused on that for the last few months and it’s starting to pay off. You can check out my workouts page to see my progress. I have also been working on my 2012 Goals and have made good progress (speaking of which I need to go update a few of those items). I love my camera! I love dunkin donuts iced coffee! I love sun and summer! I love weekends filled with fun, good food, and friends!

What do you love? How do you deal with your mixed emotions?
