Eighth day of Christmas of Lindy’s version

On the eighth day of Christmas my true love gave to me 8 Maids a milking. What are maids a milking anyway? Quite literally it would be 8 women milking a cow. Of course I am not going to talk about cows or maids milking them . . . I will then think of maids, as in maids of honor and bridesmaids.

As you know if you been following the blog, I got married this year. So I had the pleasure of having an awesome bridal party! They were the best, I could not have asked for better. I felt so special, and actually had fun. I don’t typically find wedding related things fun, especially weddings, but even my wedding was fun. My maids hosted 2 bridal showers, one in NY and one in MD, and an awesome bachelorette party! We had the typical night out on the town with great dinner. . . after the enjoyable evening we headed up to Hershey Spa (just 3 of us) for a spa day. It was the perfect way to relax after months and months of planning. It was great to have a few days of relaxation before the wedding. My maids did a great job with thoughtful party ideas and gifts. At the MD shower we played a game where Jim answered all these questions and I had to guess the correct answer, think the newlywed game. They also had guest create cards for the important events in our marriage over the next few years, we had wedding day cards, honeymoon, thanksgiving, first cold day and so many more. Then at the NY shower they gave me bottles of wine with poems for our first year of marriage (thanksgiving, christmas, New Year’s, Easter, anniversary). I also received a kitchen aid mixer. As if all of that wasn’t enough they were all there for me on the most important day of my life so far!

Five Golden Rings

On the 5th day of Christmas my true love gave to me 5 golden rings! In this case I am focusing on the golden rings piece. I always thought I would want a princess cut, white gold or platinum engagement ring.

We all know the “ideal” ring we dreamed of. I loved it for years, yet when it came time to get engaged the “what” didn’t matter so much as the meaning of the ring and the importance of why I would want to wear it. My ring is really not what I expected but I love and cherish it. It’s gold (which I wear very little of) but more importantly it’s a family ring. My grandfather bought it for my grandmother in 1950. There were married in 1951, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2001. They lived a happy life (or so I presume looking from the eyes of a grandchild). I was my grandpa’s favorite, known as poppy to me. He meant the world to me and I was his “little” girl. I was devastated when he passed away in 2007. I loved my grandmother fiercely as well! A hole has been missing in my life since she passed away in 2011. They both lived great lives and I was fortunate to be shown how a successful marriage can flourish over a lifetime. I will make my best effort to live a purposeful life to make sure I am doing them proud as they continue to be my angels in heaven, helping to guide my life. We (really my mom) jokes that her parents (the ones I just spoke about) are why I am with Jim. You see my grandparents and Jim’s grandmother lived less than 5 miles from each other. So it’s very likely they knew each other through the catholic church, which both were very involved in. The thought is they (with the help of the Lord) schemed for us to get together. Which is one of the reasons why we knew it was right from nearly day 1.

So my 5 golden rings are dedicated to my own golden rings I wear each day now (the bottom ring is Jim’s which is white gold).

Keeping joining me for my daily version of My 12 days of Christmas!

On the 2nd day of Christmas . . .

My true love gave to me two turtle doves, says the song. In my case on the 2nd day of Christmas my true love gave to me a home cooked dinner. The only meal from scratch he can actually cook is homemade lentil soup with German Spätzle. It’s so yummy and SO MUCH FOOD, which means lots and lots of leftovers.

I get that it doesn’t look too yummy but it really does taste great. I am thankful each time he makes it, plus it’s great not to have to cook for a night. Also it’s perfect on a cold night like today where the temperature at dinner was 32 degrees at dinner.

What did you receive on the 2nd day of Christmas?

2 months and a lifetime to go

It’s official 2 months since the wedding and although it feels like yesterday it also feels like forever! The number one question I get is: How’s married life? Does it feel different?

The answer is: married life is awesome!! I love coming home everyday to someone and knowing that I am someone else’s number one priority. If that makes me sound selfish, oh well! I also love cooking together, eating dinner with someone (i hate eating alone) and just plain having that other person around. I am sure it’s going to get to a point where I need a break, but I am really enjoying this honeymoon phase.

Here’s what’s not going well, the unexpected change in friendships. I know people say things change when you get married, and your life is different. Yes I get that, but I didn’t realize how much that was true. I am sure it’s partly my fault and I need to be better about making an effort but hey (the phone/email/text) it works both ways. Maybe it’s the holiday season and everyone is busy with their own stuff, but I don’t know if that’s really what’s going on. Maybe it’s just my perception and nothing has really changed. But sometimes I do feel left behind or left out. But I will make more an effort and hopefully that will make things better too.

So what’s new with you? I am going to try to update more but besides getting married not much else has happened in my world. So here’s another wedding picture my dears!

Post Wedding Update

I don’t have a whole lot of time today since it’s the first day back in the office after the wedding and honeymoon. I did want to say everything was great! We had A LOT of liquid sunshine (rain) day of the wedding, but that didn’t dampen our spirits. Our guests were troopers and sat outside (under a pavilion) for our ceremony and trudged through our puddle filled parking lot for the reception.

Jim and I had a great time, and wish it was a longer night. Our honeymoon, in sunny Aruba, was perfect! The weather was gorgeous the whole time and island is very friendly. I would definitely recommend it.

Now we are back to reality!

Here’s a few pics from the big day.
