12 Days of Christmas: Day 12

On the 12th day of Christmas my true love gave to me 12 drummers drumming.

As the reflect on my version of the 12 days of Christmas I feel like I should have done it in the true Catholic tradition. This would mean I would have started my 12 days of Christmas on Christmas Day, December 25 and discussed each day till Jan 6 (little Christmas or Epiphany). Oh well, I did say it was my version of the story.

I don’t have any real connect to drummers drumming or the number 12. So I won’t talk about those items. Instead I think about the “true love” and in many cases I referred to my true love as my husband. But if we think about the origin of the song, my “true love” is referring to God and his love for me. Each day represents a little bit of our Christian faith together. One interpretation I particularly liked talked about how this “is a song of Christian instruction, perhaps dating to the 16th century religious wars in England, with hidden references to the basic teachings of the Christian Faith.” The site discusses what each of the numbers is referring to such as: “The partridge in a pear tree is Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, whose birthday we celebrate on December 25, the first day of Christmas.

What is your interpretation of the 12 days of Christmas?

Merry Christmas friends! Wishing you joy, peace and happiness in this magical time of year, where true Christmas miracles are there, you just have to look for them!

11th Day of Christmas: 11 Pipers Piping

On the 11th day of Christmas (yes I realize my days got all messed up at some point) my true love gave to me 11 Pipers Piping. The number of 11 is a special number to me since I was married on the 11th day, in October, but every month I can celebrate the 11th. For me the number 11 will always be special.

Ladies dancing and Lords-a-Leaping

Since I missed yesterday’s post I am combing day 9 and 10. So on the 9th day of Christmas my true love gave to me 9 Ladies Dancing. On the 10th day of Christmas my true love gave to me 10 Lords-a-leaping.

To be honest folks I have not much to tie these 2 ideas to. I can think of ladies dancing and lords a leaping in the literal sense, but of course we don’t life in “olden” times so what exactly would lords-a-leaping look like today? It could be the same as guys dancing. So I can relate it back to the wedding, yes again! It was the first time, probably ever, that I remember dancing so much. And of course there was dancing had by lots of people that night. I don’t remember seeing so many people on the dance floor at other weddings. The DJ was great and had us on our feet, a lot. It probably helped that the true “dancing time” was probably only 2 hours or so. We had quite the tight timeline that night and of course because we got a late start (thanks to the rain) things went even a little faster than originally planned. So we were introduced at 7PM with our first dance, then dinner, then back to dancing. So I guessing full dancing resumed around 8PM. I didn’t have a watch so who knows. The night ended around 10:30PM.

Eighth day of Christmas of Lindy’s version

On the eighth day of Christmas my true love gave to me 8 Maids a milking. What are maids a milking anyway? Quite literally it would be 8 women milking a cow. Of course I am not going to talk about cows or maids milking them . . . I will then think of maids, as in maids of honor and bridesmaids.

As you know if you been following the blog, I got married this year. So I had the pleasure of having an awesome bridal party! They were the best, I could not have asked for better. I felt so special, and actually had fun. I don’t typically find wedding related things fun, especially weddings, but even my wedding was fun. My maids hosted 2 bridal showers, one in NY and one in MD, and an awesome bachelorette party! We had the typical night out on the town with great dinner. . . after the enjoyable evening we headed up to Hershey Spa (just 3 of us) for a spa day. It was the perfect way to relax after months and months of planning. It was great to have a few days of relaxation before the wedding. My maids did a great job with thoughtful party ideas and gifts. At the MD shower we played a game where Jim answered all these questions and I had to guess the correct answer, think the newlywed game. They also had guest create cards for the important events in our marriage over the next few years, we had wedding day cards, honeymoon, thanksgiving, first cold day and so many more. Then at the NY shower they gave me bottles of wine with poems for our first year of marriage (thanksgiving, christmas, New Year’s, Easter, anniversary). I also received a kitchen aid mixer. As if all of that wasn’t enough they were all there for me on the most important day of my life so far!

7the day of Christmas

On the seventh day of Christmas my true love sent to me: 7 Swans a Swimming. Which makes me think of swimming and summer! Oh how I miss the summer . . . I am a warm weather girl all the way. I love the sunshine, the warm weather, the open-toe shoes and everything that makes summer awesome! I love the 4th of July, fireworks, fireflies, and the late time the sun sets. This whole winter thing is not my cup of tea. I think I could be one of those people that permanently lived in warm weather, I don’t need the chill of fall or the cold of winter, or the beauty of snowflakes.

So just 7 swans a swimming takes me back to many amazing summers! Including this last one when many night were spent on long walks with my now husband.
