On the 12th day of Christmas my true love gave to me 12 drummers drumming.
As the reflect on my version of the 12 days of Christmas I feel like I should have done it in the true Catholic tradition. This would mean I would have started my 12 days of Christmas on Christmas Day, December 25 and discussed each day till Jan 6 (little Christmas or Epiphany). Oh well, I did say it was my version of the story.
I don’t have any real connect to drummers drumming or the number 12. So I won’t talk about those items. Instead I think about the “true love” and in many cases I referred to my true love as my husband. But if we think about the origin of the song, my “true love” is referring to God and his love for me. Each day represents a little bit of our Christian faith together. One interpretation I particularly liked talked about how this “is a song of Christian instruction, perhaps dating to the 16th century religious wars in England, with hidden references to the basic teachings of the Christian Faith.” The site discusses what each of the numbers is referring to such as: “The partridge in a pear tree is Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, whose birthday we celebrate on December 25, the first day of Christmas. ”
What is your interpretation of the 12 days of Christmas?
Merry Christmas friends! Wishing you joy, peace and happiness in this magical time of year, where true Christmas miracles are there, you just have to look for them!
